Brand refresh marks Big Green Coach’s 15 year sustainable success

Leading sustainable transport brand future proofs for the next 15 years

Since 2009, Midlands based Big Green Coach has been working behind the scenes to make the festival and live events industry more sustainable; fulfilling its pledge that all Big Green Coach services would be Carbon Neutral by 2023. The UK’s leading sustainable events travel company is proud of its friendly, approachable branding and website, which reflects a common sense, practical approach; but with the client base growing and expanding across multiple sectors it was  time for a refresh.

The Big Green Coach brand and website was built to last and hasn’t required major updates in 15 years; remaining functional, popular and recognizable over a period of rapid growth.  So it was agreed with Birmingham based ie-design ltd who created the original branding, to retain the existing colour palette and general appearance, which is easily recognisable both online and on site at events.  The current  logo has been  primarily aimed at getting ‘bums on seats’ with the B2C festivals/live events side of the brand. It remains strong, but it was agreed that a brand refresh could also  fully communicate the B2B corporate side of the brand.

The anniversary year is a great time to reinvigorate the branding and website as the company reflects upon the different facets of the organisation, in terms of where it is headed in the next 15 years.

The team is growing all elements of the company, but the original brand could have proven restrictive and it was time to clarify all capabilities ready for the next stage of advertising and communication.

But how can a brand and website work across so many different market sectors, with customers and partners ranging from GenZ and Millenials, to Live Nation and Tottenham Hotspurs Football Club?  Would it be possible to update the style and usage of the brand whilst adding a strapline and keeping its passion, heritage and personality?

Aims of the brand and website refresh included:

  • Retain the trust and equity in the BGC brand whilst fitting with industry peers
  • Prepare and equip the BGC team for the next 15 years
  • Equip BGC staff for company growth
  • Enable BGC staff to be part of different personalities within different sections of the brand
  • Make staff communication more streamlined

The Big Green Coach marketing team looked to other respected people-based companies for inspiration.  These tended to opt for a clean and rounded font and ID rather than a technical appearance.

Examples of brands that transport people, and have future-proofed their Corporate ID included Transport for London

The new website is now in line with those of industry peers and customers.  The key messages have been simplified:

  • Cheaper
  • Safer
  • Greener

There was a need for a sharper more current look, but with soft edges remaining. The booking system is now clearer and faster, in line with the more minimal customer journey. Copy has been streamlined and achievements and brand partners clarified. Testimonials and links to  social media are clearer and the new blog area enables the whole team to shout about company updates and achievements.

Danny Newby, who co-founded Big Green Coach with Kevin Green commented:

“Over 15 years the Big Green Coach brand has grown organically and each side of the business has a slightly different personality – ranging from festivals and live events, through to sporting and corporate events, as well as shuttle buses and private hire. Not forgetting our festival volunteer and recruitment department.

“With this brand and website refresh we have retained our overarching values and personality but can communicate how passionate, professional and organised the company is;  instilling confidence in existing and future staff and customers. With a newly updated website and branding, we can build the next stage of trust and strong communications via marketing assets that make life easier and more efficient for our relationships with valued staff, promoters and customers.”
